Wedding tips: Budgeting!

 Hey gems!
I am back with a bit more detail on how we budgeted and paid for a 300 person wedding (A BIG ITALIAN ONE LOL). I get asked often how we managed and there are a few key items to note!

1. Research: I knew what florist, photographer, etc. I wanted but we still sent out emails and did some research with a variety of options in order to understand budget ranges, offering, etc. This meant we were able to at a minimum create a budget with ranges and desired spend on each vendor. This was key to having a starting point to work off of.

2. Prioritize: Once the research was completed, we sat down to review the tasks to do, vendor options, etc. and assigned a priority to each. Those with higher priority meant we were open to spending a bit more, versus lower priority meant using the least budget possible because to us they just were of lesser importance.

3. Overshoot: When creating your budget, always round tot he higher end of the budget. For example, if a vendor is charging 7500, put 8000 in your budget. This isn't necessary but we would over budget and save which in the end put us in a really healthy position when paying all bills.

4. Think on it: If you see something you love and absolutely want for your wedding, almost all vendors allow you to think on it and get back to them. This means you can review your budget, discuss with your partner and go around the various options.

5. Plan your savings: For us, having a longer engagement, knowing we wanted a bigger event meant more time to save. We essentially broke down the total budget of the wedding, and made monthly contributions to a designated wedding account to ensure we got there. In the end this meant having money for payments when they were due, and overshooting meant we had extra for items like spending on the honeymoon.

6. Tighten the belt: It is unrealistic to say yes to all events, live your life as prior to wedding planning and still hope to save all this money. You need to tighten the reigns on the spending and really prioritize your savings while in this phase of life.

These are my tips for wedding planning but really, they are my tips for all savings and trying to build up any goals you have financially.
