All Hail the Nails
Hey there my gems!
I've done Fashion Tips, Fall Faves and Men 's Trends, BUT NOW it's time for my obsession: NAILS NAILS NAILS. My nails have always been super important to me, having them done is an easy way to have a sense of being "done up" even though you may not be wearing makeup. I've tried everything from Shellac to Acrylic and I'm going to go through my reviews of each option.
Shellac
Shellac is a great midpoint from nail polish and fake nails. It's a thicker nail polish which uses a UV light to dry, and lasts about 3-5 weeks. I did shellac for a few months on different occasions and I liked it but at the time I was a lifeguard so working in the chlorine, the shellac wouldn't last as long. I think Shellac is a really great option if you don't want to be constantly fixing your nail polish nor want fake nails. Prices can range anywhere between 20$-50$ depending on the quality, location, etc.
Acrylic
Acrylic nails are fake but they are the least recommended. I had acrylic nails for three months (3 refills) and when I took them off, after just three months, my nails were absolutely disgusting. They were flaky, yellow, dead, and so sad looking. I've always had long, thick nails and I was so devastated. Acrylic is actually now illegal in a lot of areas and honestly, even if its legal don't do it. The price tag is cheaper than BioGel but the effects are no bueno my gems. I paid different prices because I went to different salons, it varied from 30$ to 70$.
BioGel
BioGel is a fake nail, and the process is similar to acrylic, however the ingredients used are much safer for both those applying it and your nails as well. BioGel price tags aren't far from acrylic as the work to put on the nails is similar to acrylic but can range higher as well. I also tried BioGel and did about 2 refills. I have to say that although the product is supposed to be safer for your nails, mine were still pretty dead after only two months. They were flaky and breaking and I had to constantly cut them short to make them grow back stronger.
Nail Polish
Then, after all of this, there is always the common place nail polish. The DIY, pick your color, shape and change it whenever you want to! I've begun to stick to regular nail polish since I like the option of changing colors so often and not having to be worried about breaking a nail, or relying on any nail salon to have appointments when I need. Not to mention, this is a huge money saver! There are also great products like at home Gel polish. This doesn't last as long as Shellac but it will definitely last longer than average the average nail polish.
In general, my nails mean so much to me, and people don't always know but nails are a reflection of your health, hydration, skin health, etc. There is so much importance about taking care of your nails so be sure to chose the products which are best for you and your cuticle friends!
